Purpose
This guide shows how to activate Presence and Heatmaps (Location Analytics) for Cisco devices.
The activation process consists of 4 steps. The ownership of steps 1,2 and 4 belongs to the customer, step 3 belongs to Cloud4Wi Team.
Prerequisites
You need to have the "Cisco CMX Location On Premise" solution.
Step 1 - Send Campus/Building/Floor name to Cloud4Wi (ownership: customer)
The information about Campus name, Building name, and Floor name is necessary to obtain the Hardware manufacturer ID field that you have to enter into the Admin Panel, in the Locations section.
You can find this information in the Detect & Locate CMX tab of the Cisco UI.
As shown in the picture above, you can get this information from the breadcrumb (please note that it's case sensitive) after you have uploaded your map.
To obtain the Floor hardware manufacturer ID from this information, you have to concatenate the values as shown below:
CAMPUS_NAME>BUILDING_NAME>FLOOR_NAME
E.g. based on the picture above, the values to consider are:
- Campus Name: CiscoLiveLatAm
- Building Name: MoonPalaceExpo
- Floor Name: SecondFloor
Then, in this case, the value of the Floor hardware manufacturer ID is CiscoLiveLatAm>MoonPalaceExpo>SecondFloor
Step 2 – Send the width of the map to Cloud4Wi (ownership: customer)
Another information to send to Cloud4Wi is the width your map. To get it, go to the Cisco UI and select the map from Detect & Location.
Put the mouse pointer on the right-bottom corner of the map, and read the x-value and the unit of measure (ft or m) on the right of the browser.
- If the unit of measure is "meters", then you can use the value that you read from the UI (x)
- If the unit of measure is "feet", then multiply the value by 0,3048 (x*0.3048)
Step 3 - Send URL/token to Customer (ownership: Cloud4Wi Team)
Based on Campus name, Building name, and Floor name, the Cloud4Wi Team will send you the necessary information (URL and token) to make the service work.
The Cloud4Wi Team will also use the width value (of the map) to build the map to be uploaded onto the Cloud4Wi Admin Panel.
Step 4 - Enable New Location Update Event (ownership: customer)
Go to Manage → Notifications.
Add a new notification with the button on the right (+ New Notification).
Please use the following values:
- Type: Location Update
- Receiver:
- http
- host address: presence.cloud4wi.com
- port no.: 8080
- url: (the URL provided by Cloud4Wi Team in the Step 3, including the token – e.g. cloud4wi-presence/rest/cisco/locationUpdate/abcdefghi)
- Mac Scrambling/Hashing: OFF
- Message Format: JSON
